Simple cysts after a year of lumpectomy

I am 41 y.o. Asian. I had a lumpectomy on my right breast last Aug  23. 2008, the size was 2cm.The biopsy result was fibrocystic changes with sclerosing adenosis. After a year, this September 2009, I feel lumps so  had a breast ultra sound. The results are 5 simple cysts. the largest is 1.48cm. the smallest is 0.4cm. Sometimes the lumps hurt and the pain extend up to the armpits. The pain is tolerable even without pain relievers. But I am scared. Why it is painful up to the armpits? What are the causes of pain? The nerves affected? I was supposed to visit my breast surgeon last week but our schedules did not jibe. It is bad if the pain is extending up to armpits? compared to lcoalized pain only on breasts? There is no inflamed lymph node seen on ultrasound. Pls enlighten me on this. I will try to see my doctor again this week. TYVM and God bless.

Breast cysts often do cause considerable discomfort and the pain can radiate beyond the breast depending on the location of the cysts. You are wise to see your Dr. for some advice concerning these cysts. They of course can be removed if they cause too much trouble. Simple cysts are harmless and may continue to develop from time to time as they can be related to the hormone levels in the body. You might ask your Dr. about any other measures you might take to lessen the discomfort or even the development of additional cysts.  Regards ....
