Sist

Well recently (about two weeks ago) I discovered a lump in my right breast. I went to the doctor about it a few days ago and they said I had a sist, but that it wasn't serious or anything and I should have it checked again in a few months to make sure it hadn't grown. They also asked if I was feeling any pain and I said no, but now I am starting to notice a little soreness and my period isn't due for another week or two. They said I might have soreness when my period came around... but two weeks before? Also I was wondering if sists go away eventually or if they're permanent?

Dear thatgirlnextdoor: A cyst is a fluid filled "lump." These are quite common and, generally, harmless.  They can cause pain especially if the cyst has developed quickly.   As long as there is reasonable certainty that this is a cyst (based on the evaluation) there may not be any further procedures necessary.  They are not removed unless they cause problems (i.e. pain). Some people are more prone to cysts. You may never have more than this one or you could develop others. They do not become tumors. Caffeine can contribute to the development of cysts, so if you drink a lot of caffeinated beverages, you might consider cutting back.
