Size of Cyst

Hello Doctor,
My mammogram results came back recently stating I had a 7mm cyst in my left breast, lower outer quadrant with minimal ductal dilatation.  If a palpable abnormality is of further clinical concern, then MRI and/or surgical evaluation should be considered.

My concern is that I would like to know for sure that it is ok, just a benign cyst.  What is your opinion? Would you have it checked further or just wait and see?

Dear gatorfrog:  In general, a cyst is benign (a fluid filled structure) by definition.  An ultrasound is a good test for differentiating a solid versus cystic structures.  The radiologist is mentioning clinical concern to suggest that if there is clinical concern (a lump, for example) then further evaluation may be recommended.  You would likely benefit from a discussion with your doctor who can discuss this report with you in the context of your situation.
