Small lump

I have a small knot or lump right below my left breast.  It's about the size of a dime.  It's been there for a little while, but I just noticed that it's getting bigger and lately has been painful to the touch and sometimes just to wear a bra because it's in the bra line.  Could it be really serious or cancerous?  Am I trying to find a doctor to set up a physical, but should I be worried???
