Sonogram results show cyst but doctor says results are negative

I went to a gynecologist because I was feeling a dull pain in my left breast.  She asked me to get a sonogram done. When I called the doctor's office they told me the results were negative.  I asked them to mail me the results for my records.  The actual results show that the left breast has a small cyst measured at .4 x .3 x .4 cm.  I called the doctor's office again and the lady told me that those results are still considered negative because it's a cyst and not a mass.  Apparently, the only way to talk to the gynecologist is to set up another appointment.  Given the pain in my left breast and the cyst found in the same location, shouldn't there be other measures taken?  It doesn't seem like the results are negative given that I have pain in the same area.  Could you please advise on how to proceed?  Also, can you tell me who interprets results from the sonogram?  Thank you.

The Radiologist reads and interprets all films and dictates the reports. If this is a cyst as shown by the Ultrasound and by the way the pain would also support that finding then it's a benign finding and needs no further investigation. If you aren't completely satisfied with the answers you've gotten then see a Breast Specialist. Breast cysts are rather common but can be treated if they cause  considerable discomfort. They can be removed surgically if they become very large but most likely more may develop. I don't agree with their term "negative" even though a cyst gives no cause for concern. Usually there is a recommendation of a re-check to track any increase in size or the development of other cysts. By the measurements you stated this is a very small cyst; less than 1/4 in. I went for a second opinion (my surgeon) after the radiologist found 3 small cysts...1 complex and 2 simple cysts. He said the same thing my radiologist did..wait 6 months and come back to see if they've grown, etc.

I never had much discomfort but you can ask for an aspiration of the cysts if they bother you. Or cut back on caffine and increase vit E and B.
Good luck:)
