Sore nipples

My boyfriend has some lumpiness under his right nipple, together with painfulness when touched.  We have recently been on holiday & he believs it may be sunburn (although the left nipple is fine & there are no signs of skin irritation).  Please can you offer an explanation & what he should do?

Dear sti:  If there is a lump, then he should be seen by a physician.  Breast cancer is not usually painful so this could be other things.  He could watch it for a week or so and see if it goes away.  But, if it doesn't go away or if it gets larger, he needs to be examined by a physician.
