Spiculated Post Reduction Mammoplasty

Spiculated Post Reduction Mammoplasty

I was recently admitted to the hospital for colitis.  While in the hosp. they did a chest xray.  on the chest xray they found an abnormal opacity and decided to do a CT of the chest to check it out.  On CT scan they found a 1.2 spiculated mass in the deep tissue of the right breast.  The report said that this could be caused by trauma or past biopsies of this breast and this mass was also found on a CT of the chest back in May 06 (although it was never mentioned in that report, I guess the CT RAD check out my previous CT that I had after I had a blood clot in the leg from a surgery and found it on there when the other radiologist had missed it) but the mass had changed very little, only a slight growth in size.

The breast reduction surgery I had was in 04.  I had a seroma form in the left breast, but in the right breast, I had little to no complications.  My mother has a history of breast CA and my grandfather(her father) had a history of breast CA.

Of course, I am thinking the worst, as I didn't even know what the word spiculated meant until I googled it. I also googled non-changing spiculated breast mass and there were several reports that said that even if it didn't grow, there is still a 95% chance of malignancy.

What are the chances of a spiculated mass that shows up on CT being a result from a previous surgery?  And what do you think about the fact that it didn't grow?

I go to see a general surgeon on Thursday this week, but wanted to go into that appt. armed with as much information as possible.

Thank you for having such a wonderful service.

~C.

on a mamogram (mammogram) that's concerning, but i don't know about CT scan.  it's reassuring that it hasn't changed since 5/06.  Let us know what the general surgeon says!
