Spiculated mass

I have a 2mm spiculated mass in my left breast. I have had a core biopsy and will get the results next week.

My surgeon says that regardless of result, she wants to do a lumpectomy and then a further biopsy which might lead to node removal too.

I just don't know what to think of all this. If the mass is not cancer, why the surgery? On and on...

Dear calamityto,  With the core biopsy the amount of tissue that is obtained and examined is within the bore of the needle that is used.  Although all attempts are made to get the abnormal area in the biopsy, there may be concern that something was missed thus the surgery which would be to remove more of the tissue area at this site of concern.
