Hello...I have birad4 calcifications, and I'm not sure what is the best way to go for the biopsy. The area is under the right areola and nipple. I would appreciated feedback. I think I am more frightened of the biopsy than cancer.
But either way, try not to be afraid of the biopsies; it is so important to get accurate information! I have had both types of biopsy, and for me the anticipation was much worse than the procedures themselves.
I think it depends on the advice of your surgeon! The Stereotactic core needle biopsy can get a sample of the cells around the calcifications with a less invasive procedure, which might be enough information to either know that all is well or to know that a further procedure may be needed. The excisional biopsy takes a larger area of tissue around the calcifications which can be more definitive, but of course is more invasive and perhaps too aggressive for a first step.
