Stopping Tamoxifen have osteroporosis

I had stage 3a breast cancer ER/PR pos, HER2 questionable, mastectomy, chemo, radiation. I took Tamoxifen for 5 months and stopped 1 month ago per doctor due to uncontrollable severe hot flashes, severe depression, severe bone pain, menstrual-like cramps but period stopped June 20098 from chemo,  among other things, CT neg,. I just found out I have osteoporosis, and just turned 50. Was premenopausal in 2009 when brst CA Dx'd. Periods stopped but am not yet considered menopausal. Was just wondering if anyone was in a situation similar to mine and what was prescribed. I only know that I will take my chances without Tamoxifen, because the side effects were debilitating for me.

There have been studies and recommendations regarding the use of Evista for reducing occurance in high risk women and also recurrance ... both in post menopausal women. The side effects are similar to those of Tamoxifen but the serious ones are less. This drug is used to treat Osteoporosis as a rule. Your Oncologist would be able to advise if this would be appropriate in your case.  Regards ....
