Swollen nipple & ariola

For the last two weeks I experienced unconfortable with my nipple. I ingored it and thinking that it was nothing. But it get worst. Now my nipple and my ariola is swollen and turn reddish. I can feel the pain but its tolerable. My question is what do you think is the reason why my nipple & ariola turn in this kind of situation? By the way I'm 75 years old and female, and this is the first time I experience it.

It's impossible to speculate over the internet without benefit of examination as to the cause of the swelling involving your nipple and areola.I would suggest that you make an appointment with your Dr. for a clinical breast exam and any testing that might be appropriate. This could be some minor irritation but you need to have it ck.d out to be sure.    Regards ..
