THROBBING AND SHARP PAINS IN MY BREASTS

I'm a  38 year who has been having these throbbing, sharp pains in my breasts and white discharge from my right nipple for a few years now. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Could these pains be signs of breast cancer? I have no health insurance so I can't afford to visit a doctor for tests and medicines.

Ok now im freaking out. I found a lump in left breast in june but it was just before my cycle so I just kept an eye on it. watched it for a coupleof months. Then one day I was having bad breast pain on the same side so I went to my GP the next day and he pushed around and asked if it hurt I said yes but its not the same pain he said that is good so he sent me in for mammo and ultrasound. Later that night after the doc pushed around I had the same pain again so I thought good that means muscle or something he also said that is good indication. So the mammo and ultra sound showed nothing they want me to come back in four months. But after speaking with several people I know three people who had the same thing mammo showed nothing and ultra showed nothing and they all ended up with cancer. So I called my doc told him im not satisfied with that. So I go see a specialist next week but now im looking at six months from the start here and now im nervous.but it doesnt seem larger than in the begining. I just know of way too many women with breast cancer and it scares me. My dads mom died of it before I was born.

I was just diagonosed two weeks ago.  I also have experienced breast pain.  The pain is like a sharp poke and slight burning.
Do yourself a favor and go get checked.  I just turned 40

I was diagnosed with breast cancer a little over a year ago. The way I found it was that I was having severe sharp pain in my breast.  I then felt a lump, so I made an appointment to see my doctor.  She told me that if it was something "bad" there usually isn't pain associated with it. It turned out that I was at stage two breast cancer.  If there is any question in your mind, and especially with a family history, you should get a mammogram as soon as possible.  If it is cancer, the earlier you catch it, the better.  If it's not, than you can ease your mind!  Contact the American Cancer Society to see if they know of any place that offers free mammograms.

Please get to a doctor especially since your mother was diagnosed. If it were to be cancer early treatment is very important. There must be a free clinic or health department somewhere nearby. Call the American Cancer Society and explain the situation to them. I am sure with your persitance someone  will help you.

Dear catlover68:  Breast pain is not uncommon.  It is most common during certain times in the menstrual cycle and usually resolves to some extent after the period.  Most breast cancer is NOT painful.

Many women have some type of nipple discharge or fluid when their breasts are squeezed, and its normal. Squeezing the nipple sends message to the brain and the pituitary gland responds by increasing prolactin levels, which in turn produces discharge from the nipple.
