TRAM and Latissimus Dorsi Flap

Hello Doctor. Post-mastectomy, I underwent a latissimus dorsi flap surgery about 1.5 year ago. Between the time of my surgery, my doctor was away in another country for a year so I wasn't able to properly follow up with him. In the meantime, the area in the back where the muscle was detached did not heal properly. One day I noticed that the muscle had increased tension and from that day, the tension never disappeared. I have a constant tightness in my back in the area of the surgery. I have had to let go of my love for yoga.

When I finally saw the doctor recently, he told me that the muscle had healed onto its current position and all that I can do is to massage the area to relieve some of the tension. Is this the only solution to this tension? Is surgery possible to detach the muscle again? I can't believe that I will have to live the rest of my life with this constant tension in my back.

Dear Maytwenty10,  Over the internet it is very difficult to say whether or not this is the only solution to your problem.  We are not experts at the surgical techniques that might be possiblilities, you may want to consult with another surgeon who could evaluate your situation and advise whether more surgery would be helpful.  Perhaps your doctor could refer you to a physical therapist who may be able to help with some non-surgical suggestions.
