Tamaxifen and Pregnancy

I am a five year breast cancer survivor and I am almost finished with Tamoxifen.  I was 24 when I was diagnosed and now, I want to start a family but I cannot get a clear answer on how long I need to wait after I start taking the Tamoxifen to start having children?  Do you know what the time frame is?

Thanks,

rtkuty

Dear rtkuty:  Technically, it takes about 6 weeks for tamoxifen to get out of your system.  However, the issue of when, or whether, to have children should be discussed with your doctor and your partner.  Some doctors suggest you should wait at least a year until after therapy is completed but there is no clear answer.
