Tamoxifin or no medication

Tamoxifin or no medication

The question is should I take tamoxifin (tamoxifen) after me lumpectomy and radiation. Looking at the side affects it sounds that I will trade one evil for the other. Has anyone had a lumpectomy and radiation done and did not take tamoxifin (tamoxifen)? Is there a smoker that is taking tamoxifin (tamoxifen)? (I am trying to quit). How dangerous is this drug?

Dear Tweetie8554:  Endocrine therapy, such as tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitors are given to women who have hormone receptor positive (estrogen and/or progesterone) breast cancer.  It is not given to women who have hormone receptor negative tumors.  Tamoxifen is generally given to women who are premenopausal and aromatase inhibitors to women who are post menopausal.  All drugs have side effects and these must be weighed against the potential benefit.  This will be a good discussion to have with your doctor as it pertains to your situation.
