Tamoxofin

I have chosen not to take Tamoxofin - I did do standard Chemo.  I tried to take Tamox for two weeks and I wanted to die - I am not that type of person and having taken this all very well - What needs to be looked at is the effect of estrogen loss on individuals and the other side effects of the Tamox that affect the brain.  Many women are crazy on this drug - due to the drug not having cancer!  Chemo put me into instant menopause - Hormone therapys are not an option - so how do we overcome this?  I am harsher without my estrogen, on Tamoxofin I want to die - I had to chose mental health over reducing cancer recurrance risk.

I am sorry that you had such a hard reaction to Tamoxifen.  Have you spoken to your doctors about trying an aromatase inhibitor, since you had instant menopause.  Sometimes, but not usually, doctors will remove ovaries as a way to cut estrogen levels.  There is some chance that your ovaries could "wake up" as my oncologist puts it.  However, I have gone 11 months since chemopause and show no signs of that happening.  I am 48 and had TCH with 2 more Herceptins to go.  

I have been on Tamoxifen for 7 months and have had few side effects.  I have 2-3 brief hot flashes per day, generally at night, and no mood changes, so I am not complaining.  Many ladies have so much more.

I friend who had a hysterectomy and instant menopause had terrible hotflashes and found relief drinking green tea.  I would check with my doctors about supplemental therapies to see if they can help you.  Thinking of you.
