Taxotere/Taxol

I was diagnosed with Lobular Carcinoma with cancer also in sentinal lympnode.
Had bilateral Masectomy.  Started chemo (cytoxin and Taxotere) ....now have colitis, doc suggest switching to
Taxol and instead of a high dose once every three weeks  we will be doing once a week
with lower doses.  My question is'nt taxotere and taxol from same family?

Sorry for the mix up but my last 2 posts I sent were directed TOTALLY at melissa_montellano. Just talk to your doc and do your research, you will find out the TRUTH about the 2 drugs.

By the way I am presently taking taxotere. But if you ned more info on these two drugs go to your search med help browser and type in taxotere vs taxol. This may be helpful to you. Regaurdless good luck with your treatment.

Aslo ESSENTAILLY the same does not mean identical, it just means they are very close. Proof of that is in the literature.

Thanks for your input but im just repeating what my doctors said. As well as the second opinion doc. I have not come acorss one medical professional who have not said that they are essentailly the same. But good luck to you. Im glad you found the answer to your question.

i would just like to correct traceyz. no, they are not basically the same drug. Taxol's INN or generic name is paclitaxel, while Taxotere is docetaxel. but they are from the same class of drugs known as taxanes/taxoids.

According to my oncologist and surgeon, yes those 2 drugs are in the same family. They are basically the same drug.
