I had the same problem they did an ultrasound and found it to be a complex cyst.  They stated that actually if it is tender it is more of a sign of a cyst rather than anything else.  They ended up doing a full biopsy on me because it did not go away and everything was fine.  Actually by the time it was time for the procedure it had shrunk down significantly.  I hope that helps, but i do understand it feels freaky and you want it out.

Hi,
Most lumps in the breasts are found to be benign in nature and the most common ones could be cysts or fibroadenomas (both benign nodules).
These cysts are related to the increasing hormonal fluctuations. The pain is particularly felt prior to the menstrual cycle and subside after the menses finish.
Avoiding caffeine, (Coffee, chocolate and colas) salty food and fatty food can lessen the pain considerably.
Since you are  worried about it,you could ask your doctor to order an Ultrasound.
This painless test will definitely reveal if this lump is a cyst (fluid filled sac) or something else that needs to be further investigated.
Usually cyst are left alone, but if it's causing you a lot of pain,or grows considerably,it could be aspirated by a fine needle (FNA) to relieve the symptoms and probably no further treatment will be required. If the lump is solid, the cells extracted will be analyzed by a pathologist to give a correct diagnosis.
Best wishes...
