Thickening in both breast

Last month just before my period my breast became very tender and I noticed areas of thickening in both breast that feel kinda lumpy. They both seemed to be swollen, all these symptoms seemed to last until a few days after my period was over. No more pain or swelling but these areas in each breast continued to be thicker just not as swollen. I'm totally freaking out I am 24 and i am aware that breast cancer is a possibility. I have an appointment for a breast exam and I hope this is normal but i dont know what to think. About half way through my cycle again and here goes theses thicker areas hurting again and my breast feel heavier when this is happening. Is this common or a sign of the BIG C?

This is a hormonal response and it may happen on a regular basis. Most women's breasts do become quite tender at that time and lumpy breast tissue is also not uncommon in younger women. This would not be a sign of breast cancer .... especially when it's something that affects both breasts.  Regards ....
