Torn Stomach Muscle from Tram?

Torn Stomach Muscle from Tram?

Hi Ladies!
I had a bilateral done at the end of 2006 with expanders put in at the same time.  In 2007 I had 6 sx which included the tram.  The tissue died and I ended up having saline implants.  At the beginning of this year, I began training for a 1/2 marathon and started having severe pain in the abdomen.  I went back to my plastic surgeon who felt like the problem came from my gall bladder sx.  I had lost 33lbs and yet within a week of the pain I had a pooch of fluid on my stomach.  I went to my surgeon (gall bladder) and he drained off fluid and told me I had torn a stomach muscle.  I lay in bed for 6 weeks not able to do anything.  That was about two months ago.  Last week I was playing with my grandchildren in the pool and I started hurting again.  Today I went back to the surgeon because I look 3 months pregnant and in severe pain.  He put a 3" needle in and went to the back of my muscle and drained off more fluid.  He said I needed to go back to my plastic surgeon and he needed to go back in.  He needed to tighten the muscle because everytime I did anything it would rip and fluid would leak.  I don't know if this is what you are having but if it is, let me know.  I would never recommend this sx to anyone.  I have lived in the hosp.  It is not worth, the flat tummy.  I am 46 and have never felt so horrible.  Please let me know if any of you have had this problem.  Thanks!

I agree the tram surgery was certainly not worth the tummy tuck.  I didn't have a "torn stomach muscle" but I did get a massive hernia which required a net, which causes more scar tissue, which entraps nerves, which is extremely painful, which destroys quality of life. I finally found a pain clinic that has it somewhat under control, but who wants to take this expensive medications forever.   I did have a lot of fluid pockets that broken open several times after the surgery.  That seems to be gone, but recently (twoi years after the Tram surgery) a 3/4 inch by 3 inch section of the scar simply peeled off and was raw underneath.  Nobody can explain that one.  Anyone considering a TRAM should really look at other alternatives, too many people are having issues. Texan, you are not alone there are others out here with TRAM complications.

Thanks,
I never realized how many complications would come up this late in the game.

i agree if i had it do all over again i would def not do the tram.i`ve had the same as you and as greta  as a matter of fact this yr alone i`ve  had my stomahe drained  several times and two surgeories all with more mesh removal and  i have no stomache muscle at all now. the seroma`s keep opening and fluid leaks out. this has been going on since 2001. my stomache goes up and down i look 9 months preg sometimes and i get pain in my groin and down my leg. i saw my dr monday and i have to go back to the plastic surgeon tues. i am in alot of pain and i can feel the abcess (abscess) commming back. this is crazy!!!and i will not let them drain me anymore!i really feel for you and anyone else who is considering the tram flap. hope you feel better. god bless!!

p.s. they keep telling me i don`t have a hernia but i have all the symptoms and everytime they operate they remove more mesh which leads to more scar tissue. i am in exteme pain and dont take pain killers anymore because i got addicted to percoset from the cancer,so i`d rather do without .i really don`t feel like going down that road again!!i dont know what they are going to do now to me since this is ongoing. ty for listening
