Tram Flap mesh chronic infection

Tram Flap mesh chronic infection

I had tram flap reconstruction in 1997.  About 5 years ago I lost 120 pounds and began to notice a big golf ball sized bulge in my stomach.  After numerous tests, my surgeon went in and removed a portion of infected mesh.  It has been oozing for the last year and a half.  I have a small hole in my abdomen which secretes a yellow mucus every day.  My surgeon feels that the mesh will be very difficult to remove and could be a life threatening procedure.  His recommendation is to leave it as is.  My question is what are the surgical complications to synthetic mesh removal (the piece of mesh is 7 x 7) and can you give me names of specialists who can help me make the best decision.

Hi,

Sorry to hear all you have been going through!

However, this forum only deals with breast issues. (I know that's what originally led to your current problem, but you're dealing with the abdomen now.)

You might try posting in the Cosmetic Surgery Expert Forum.

Best wishes...

I've sent you a private message about this issue. Unfortunately, it happens all to often with tram flap reconstructions.

Best wishes.
