Tram flap and newly ex-smoker

Tram flap and newly ex-smoker

I had my mastectomy on June 14th and had quit smoking 3 weeks prior because they had planned to do a tram flap. But at the last moment they decieded to do lymph noids and make sure the cancer had not spread. Now I am due to have the tram flap July 18th. I did pick up the puffing game and now I've quit. I have alittle over 20 days be for the operation. Is that enough time to let the blood vessels recoupe?

Thank You

Dear wwborneo:  Vascular systems can have wide variability in people based on genetics, health, and behaviors.  Smoking is known to cause damage to vascular systems.  This can manifest itself temporarily or permanently, depending on the person.  Hopefully, your surgeon has evaluated you with the knowledge that you are a smoker.  Smoking constricts (narrows) the blood vessels.  Stopping smoking, even temporarily will prevent this immediate effect that occurs while smoking.
