Treatment after being diagnosed with IDC Breast Cancer

Hello-
My mother was just diagnosed by her OBGYB with Invasive Ductal Carcinogen Breast Cancer.  She is scheduled to see a surgeon next week to see what the plan will be.  I am assuming they are going to remove the 2 lumps under her left breast (lumpectomy) then do radiotherapy.  My question to you is will she need chemotherapy as well?
Nervous Diana!

From your post I gather that some sort of biopsy has already been done to arrive at this diagnosis.
If indeed the surgeon recommends lumpectomy then some sampling of lymph nodes would be done at this time ... most likely a sentinel node biopsy to determine if the cancer has invaded the lymphatic system. After all the Pathology reports are in she will no doubt have a consultation with an Oncologist who will recommend the proper treatment based on the complete picture. You are correct in one respect; if there is no lymph node involvement, radiation would probably be the recommended treatment and possibly several years of Tamoxifen, depending of course if the cancer is Estrogen dependant. Kindest regards .....
