Treatment after lumpectomy

by Lindy65, Dec 21, 2008 09:35AM
I am going to have a lumpectomy in two weeks to remove microcalcifications that showed invasive cancer.  What is usually the treatment after this. and what is the prognosis for this type of cancer?

At this point this is pretty much impossible to answer .. your treatment post-lumpectomy will depend on the Pathology of the tissue removed. There will also be some sampling of at least the Sentinel Lymph Node to ck. for invasion to the lymphatic system by the cancer. There could or could not be a course of Chemotherapy .. Most likely  some Radiation followed by some form of Hormonal Therapy (this would also be dependant whether the cancer is Estrogen pos. or neg.). May we wish you well with your upcoming surgery and please don't hesitate to return with additional questions or concerns.   Regards ....
