Treatment for metasasis breast cancer

Treatment for metasasis breast cancer

I was treated for breast cancer in 2002 .  Having a lumpectomy and 30 radiation treatments and three chemo treatments which was to give a 10% chance of reoccurance.  In December of 2003 I had a Catscan that showed two spots on my lungs  at about 5mil. I was advised to wait three months and have another catscan which showed these two spots to now be about 8mil.Then I had a P. E. T. scan which showed these to be active.  Now I am diagnosed with breast metasasis to my lungs.  My oncologist is advising me to wait for treatment till I have symptoms.  I am feeling good but do not want to jepordize my chance for a longer life by puting off treatment.  I always thought quicker was better when it comes to cancer.  Do you have an opinion on treatment?

Dear Purdin:  Given that the disease is in your lung, many oncologists would recommend proceeding with treatment.  Of course, this would depend on other factors such as your age, general health, anticipated toxicity, etc.  You may benefit from a second opinion from a breast cancer oncologist who can discuss options and pros and cons of each.
