Two breast lumps

Two breast lumps

I recently had an ultrasound where two solid lesions were identified.  One measured 1.6 x 1.3 x 1 and the other measured 1 cm.  I had a mammogram and the larger lesion appears to be an enlarged lymph node but the smaller lesion could not be visualized.  I am 37 years old and had reduction mammoplasty three years ago.  The radiologist doesn't seem to think that the lumps are relatd to my previous surgery. The breast tissue around the enlarged lymph node is painful up into my armpit.  Could the smaller lesion be cancerous and be causing the lymph node to enlarge?  I am awaiting core biopsy but I'm really quite anxious.  What is the significance of a lump and an enlarged lymph node?  Should I be worried?

Dear Dawnie:  It is difficult to comment without a more specific description of how the lumps appear.  Lymph nodes can be enlarged for a variety of reasons, including infection.  Cancer is not usually painful.  Unfortunately, the only way to know for certain is to biopsy.  Hopefully, this will all turn out to be benign.
