A second opinion is always a good idea. Thanks for letting me know.
Thanks for your kind words and support. I had the diagnostic mamo and ultrasound yesterday on the right side. The recently inverted nipple is on the left. They said the left came out fine on the screening mamo, but they thought they saw a mass on the right side. The "mass" did not show up on the diagnostic, so they handed me a letter saying, "Congratulations! You do not have breast cancer!" What a relief. I don't know whats causing the inverted nipple though. I'll follow up with my MD in a few days once she's had a chance to review the diagnostic.
Thanks again for your support and calming words!
The screening mamo came back OK on the left breast (with the inverted nipple), but I am having a diagnostic mamo and an ultrasound on the right one tomorrow. I thought the technician made an error, but they are saying that they want a better look at something that came up in the right breast screening. Is this pretty common?
It is common for them to later find on further examination of the films a spot or something they want to look into further. It is probaly nothing so don't get to upset yet.
Dear MaryAAB: In most cases, diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds are prescribed to focus in on an area of the breast that requires further investigation. Since you have a recently inverted nipple, it may be that your doctor would like to examine the breast more closely. We recommend that you discuss your concerns with your doctor, who has reviewed your mammogram and breast examination and can best respond to your questions specifically as they relate to you.
