Underarm Dimple....Another Question

Underarm Dimple....Another Question

This question is related to the question I asked earlier today regarding the dimple in my right armpit (in the upper part of the armpit, in the crease, where the arm bends).

The nurse who answered my question said to watch the dimple and if it changes have a doctor look at it.  He/she also said that it's possible that the dimple has been there all along.

I don't think the dimple has been there all along, but then again, I'm not 100% sure about that.  There was no comment made on the pain I mentioned feeling in my armpit yesterday and the day before, or the fact that I'm in the middle of my period right now.  I find it hard to believe that it's a coincidence that I find a dimple in my armpit the day after I've been experiencing pain coming from the same location without it meaning something.  Am I overreacting?

Dear njjd:  Breast cancer is not usually painful  Pains like those you describe could be from a variety of things, including menstrual symptoms.  Without looking at this dimple, it is impossible to give any sort of explanation.  What you need to know is this, dimples in the armpit and pain in the armpit are not typical signs of breast cancer.  If you are concerned, please have your doctor take a look.

I posted about the same thing 2 days ago..I have the same thing in the same spot..I showed my doctor and she said an indentation was supposed to be there..it is really indented though and I don't remember it being that prominent...and the other side just has a very slight indentation..

Thanks for telling me about what your doctor said, Renie.  I was still a little unsettled about the indention.  Although, after looking really hard last night I found an indention in the other armpit.  It was so slight I never would have noticed it, had I not been looking so closely.

If a dimple in the armpit were related to breast cancer, it would be from a lymph node so involved with metastatic cancer that the cancer had gone beyond the limits of the node into the surrounding tissues, causing puckering. I've seen this a couple of times: in that case, the nodes in the armpit would be so large and abnormal that there'd be absolutely no question about what was going on. In other words: a small dimple with no obviously abnormal nodes underneath means nothing.

I had asked a question about a dimple in my upper axilla (where it meets the arm) but I also have a movable enlarged lymph gland lower down towards the breast that I have had a axilla ultrasound on and it is being watched..there are no lumps assc/ w the dimple and my famioly doctor said the indent was normal although I don't remember it being so prominent..could this be related to the benign node?

No. For it to be related there'd need to be enough abnormality to affect the surrounding tissues.

Hey I'm a 23 yr old female and my left armpit has a dimple and if you press slightly you can feel a lump (not hard sort of rubbery) and its very painful. I plan on seeing my doctor but my new insurance isn't active for a couple of months. Any ideas?
