Unresolved Mastitis

I am a 35yrs old diagnosed with mastitis about 2 months ago by my family doctor.  I went to my family MD with a breast lump, lump under my arm, and all the classic Mastitis symptoms.  Mammogram and ultrasound did not detect a problem.  4 rounds of antibiotics and 2 rounds of steroids later, still have a lump.  Had a repeat ultrasound last week that detected a 1cm by 3/4 cm lump and 5 enlarged lymph nodes.  Biopsies on both came back benign, thank God!  But breast specialist is wanting to leave this in for 3 more months to repeat ultrasound or put me on additional antibiotics.  After a horrible yeast infection, a UTI, and my menstrual cycle being thrown out of whack from the antibiotics, I am NOT taking any more meds until I know exactly what is going on and I definitely don't want this in me for another 3 months.  PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I just don't understand why I am not responding to any of the 4 antibiotics that I already took.  The suggestion to wait 3 months did come from the breast specialist that I am now seeing.  I also don't know what they will see in an ultrasound 3 months from now, isn't the biopsy tissue good for futher research?  How come I can't get this Mastitis under control? my last pregnancy was 4 years ago, so I'm nowhere near breastfeeding, etc.

I presently have a sore lump months after  having mastitis (many years after breastfeeding). I have had 2 rounds of antibiotics and the lump hasnt budged. i dont want to continue with antibiotics either! Has your lump resolved?
Hello Kmw22!  Welcome to the forum.  It's easiest if you start your own thread so we can chat about your situation specifically.  It can take quite a while to recover from mastitits and 2 months is not that uncommon. This older thread is from others who have taken as long.  https://www.medhelp.org/posts/Breast-Cancer/Unresolved-Mastitis/show/1230184

Mastitis is often a long road to recovery ..... 2 months is really no time at all when you're dealing with mastitis. I see no reason for an invasive procedure to remove the lump since you biopsies have resulted in benign findings. I can assure you that you may need to be on med.s for a few months more to conquer the mastitis. If you have no confidence in your present Physician then by all means get a second opinion from a Breast Specialist but I doubt you will be given any better answers or treatment.    Regards ....
