Use of Temodar (Temozolomide) for Brain Mets from the Breast

by Devoted_husband, Sep 08, 2001 12:00AM
My wife has recently been diagnosed with brain mets stemming from an estrogen-receptive breast tumour removed about 41 months ago.  she has undergone whole brain rads and her oncologist mentioned the use of "Temozolomide" as a potential treatment.  She didn't have any information on the efficacy of the drug for non-primary brain tumours (which is how it is currently used).  Any information on its efficacy for breast mets in the brain?

Dear Devoted, Currently temozolomide is undergoing clinical trials looking at its effectiveness as treatment of patients with brain metastases.  The National Cancer Institute is participating in some phase II trials.  In a phase II trial the question that is being asked is whether a certain treatment is effective in a certain type of disease or situation such as brain metastasis.  At this time the data is not available as to whether or not temozolomide will be effective in the treatment of brain metastases but it continues to be studied.
