Using mattress from chemotherapy patient

by Grandaughter, Jun 26, 2005 12:00AM
Is it safe to use a mattress from my grandfather who was undergoing chemotherapy before he died of cancer. He was told to wash his close twice after wearing them. The family was also told to use gloves to clean up any urin from him. There is a small stain on one side of the mattress. He passed away in March, 2005. I would be using the mattress as a guest bed, and no one would be sleeping on the mattress for more than a week.

Dear Granddaughter:  There would be no risk to anyone sleeping on a mattress used by a former chemotherapy patient.  When there are precautions in terms of urine, etc.  The time period usually relates to the first day or two following chemotherapy.
