Very Confused

I saw my GP/NP on Tuesday, scheduled a mammogram for Thursday. Mammogram picked up something, went for an immediate sonogram, ultra sound guidied core biopsy is now scheduled for Tuesday. (They wanted to schedule biopsy for Friday but the doctor was out out of town until Tuesday.)

Here lies my confusion. I went to my GP with a lump and pain in my left breast. It has been tender to the touch, very rough to the touch and a little swollen for about four weeks. The solid mass that is suddenly receiving so much attention and concern is in my right breast, toward the back at 6 o'clock. The radiologist and doctor seemed "urgent" in their actions.
I am highhly concerned about the lump but in my shock, I left without any answers about my left breast and it is still painful and even more "engorged this morning". I am simply bedaffled upon what I should be doing and what I should be concerned about.
I am 36 and this is my 3rd mamogram, maternal aunt was diagnosed with BC at 37. My doctor in my previous state chose a conservative over sorry attitude.Last mammogram November 2002.

In order to get an "official" answer you need to post a new message to the forum.  The majority of breast lumps have nothing to do with cancer -- the odds are on your side that everything is OK.  BUT ... you should follow up as your Dr. has suggested.  Hopefully the mammogram will answer some questions about what's going on.  If not, a biopsy may be suggested and since these are lumps you can feel, that should be a fairly simple procedure.  It's best to know for sure what is happening with your breasts.  If there should happen to be cancer, the sooner you know the better.  Good luck.
