Was diagnosed with ADH

I had breast biopsy Sept. 23rd with removal of the lump. I am 32 years old and there is no breast cancer that runs in my family. Ovarian cancer and lukemia run in my family. I went back to see the surgeon and he said the lump was benign. It was very large though, he said it was close to being cancer and that I have to see him every six months, I had a hard time understanding him so I went to my obgyn who is the one that referred me to the general surgeon. He proceeded to tell  me that I have atypical cells in my right breast. which increases my risk of getting breast cancer, and being so young with this diagnoses increases my risk also. I am a smoker I have smoked for 18 years. And Now the Doctor is really on my case to quit. In which I understand why. Im just worried because I am fibrocystic in my breasts. Mainly only my right one. I get lumps all the time but nothing like what I just had removed. Im afraid to go threw this all over again, and the surgeon told me that If I get another lump it will have to be removed. Arent there other tests that they can do before the drastic procedure of excision of the lump?? I know that there has to be Im just a little confused on all this. My scar isnt officially healed yet, Im a slow healer and my tissue the surgeon says will grow back (hopefully normally) at least by 2 months. Im still having tenderness in the area and some pain in the surrounding area. which I know everything takes time to heal. I dont want to go threw this again.

A biopsy can tell if the suspicious area is benign or malignant. With the diagnosis of ADH it is always recommended that the entire area be removed and sometimes pt.s are advised to have some additional treatment such as Radiation and Tamoxifen after the surgery. Just because the area or lump is diagnosed by biopsy it doesn't mean that it won't need to be removed surgically. It would depend on what type of cells were found.    Regards .....

You should really check with a BRCA savvy genetic counselor in your area about getting BRCA testing done. Breast and ovarian cancers are related in some genetic mutations along with several other types of cancer. Your young age is also an indicator that you should have this blood test. You would then know the odds of recurrence and suggestions for preventative treatments and surgeries. Please consider this. You can also speak to your local doctors about it but they usually don't have much knowledge in that area.

Thank you very much for your in put.  I have thought about the test done to check out The gene. I know that I should but I also dont know if my insurance will cover it. But Im going to check it and see. Thank You!!
