What are my chances?

Dear Priscilla:  Based on the information you provide you have stage one breast cancer.  The most significant information is the tumor size (invasive component 0.9 cm) and the node negative status.  The margins are completely clean.  There is no lympho-vascular invasion, which is a favorable finding.  The estrogen and progesterone negativity is less favorable than if it were positive.  Overall, you have an excellent prognosis.  Depending upon your age and health, your 10 year survival is probably in the 90 plus percent.

Thank you for your response.  You made me feel much better about the margins.  I know it is good news that it was small and not in the lymph nodes, but I can't let go of the fact that it was an aggressive type (Grade 3) and that there was something about DCIS and LCIS in the pathology report, and that I am estrogen negative.  Also, my breast is red and my doctor said I have an infection, but I have read some place that, that is a sign of inflamatory breast cancer.  I just need my hand held I guess.

Priscilla...........I am very , very new to this site........just found it today.  I am simply sending this as, perhaps, something of a comforting note.  I am a 10 year survivor of breast cancer.  I had what was identified as a "papillary carcinoma" which (according to the reading that I have done is, I think, a rather "rare" subtype as is yours - as I recall).  My pathology report is not as extensive as is yours (remember, I am 10 years "out").  I had  a lumpectomy and also had clear margins and no lymph node involvment and was also estrogen/progesterone (sp?) negative (very much so!).  I had CMF in a "sandwich" form (I had 3 months of chemo and then the 33 sessions of radiation and then the last 3 months of chemo).  I have been free ever since!  My oncology doctors are beginning to make "cured" noises. WOW!  It's possible!  Good luck to you!

Hi there, I've been doing some reading on breast cancer because atypical cells were found in a cyst in my breast.  It's going to be removed in September and biopsied, but in the meantime, I wanted to learn about what foods etc. could help prevent breast cancer.  I read that green tea is helpful and using the extract is better.  It would be hard to drink enough tea to make a difference.  So that's one thing I'm going to try. It seems that pre-menopausal is a hard time for the right estrogen balance in a woman's body.
