What is going on

by Joely96, May 13, 2008 07:52PM
I have been feeling pain in my left breast.  Recently the pain was very intense.  I feel a lump in my breast but  an xray done in the  ER did not show anything.  The pain is radiating into my shoulder and into my left arm.  No matter what I say the doctors continue to tell me they do not feel anything yet I feel it and when I carry a back pack it hurts my shoulder and feels like something is being compressed.  I feel crazy and wonder if that is what everyone is thinking I know the pain is real.  I know my breast hurts could this be cancer.

Hi there.

The most common cause of breast pain is hormonal stimulation that usually coincides with a woman's menstrual cycle.  The pain is usually most intense just before the menses and subsides upon the onset of menses.  This pain can also be accompanied by a lump.  I suggest that you discuss with your doctors about further imaging studies such as mammogram (a plain x-ray will not tell us much) and/or ultrasound examination. This will tell us if there is something wrong with the breasts.

Regards and God bless.
