Whats happening

Hi all,

I started my last period April 9, 2010......after that I had a biopsy done on my left breast.  I had a lumpectomy done on April 20, 2010.

The lumpectomy incision hasn't completely healed yet and I'm going on May 20 to see the surgeon again.  My question is that I haven't started my period yet.  I did a home pregnancy test and it was negative.  Would the operation have anything to do with my not getting my period?  I don't know if it messed with my hormones.  Just wondering.  Thanks

I don't think it would be so much that the lumpectomy specifically "messed with your hormones" as that all the stress and worry and going through surgery might have thrown you off your normal schedule.

A GYN I used to see summed it up by saying, "Some women miss a period if they have a cold, while others would stay right on schedule if their head were cut off--there's just no way of knowing!"

If you didn't have unprotected sex, and you are normally  regular, you might wait to see  you're back on schedule for your June cycle.   (Or, if you think the timing of recent intercourse could have been right  for a possible pregnacy, and you're really worried, you could ask for an "official" pregnancy test.)

Best wishes...
