Why has my hair not grown back to it's normal thickness since Chemo and last radiation in Feb, 07

I was diagnosed with stage 3 Breast Cancer in May 06; I had a right breast Mastectomy with reconstructive surgery. This was followed with Chemo and Radiation which was completed in February 2007.  My hair started growing back prety quickly; however It is still very fine and I have some bald spots on the top and back of my head.  I met with my Dermatologist and she said there is no scalp disease.

I was taking Aromasin and now taking Tamoxifin (tamoxifen).  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to grow my hair back?

Thanks

Hi.

The pattern and quality of hair regrwoth after losing hair to chemotherapy can be varied and is different from one person to another.  Most people would have thicker hair upon regrowth but like in your situation, some can grow thin sparse hair.  It is indeed possible that this can be a lasting consequence of the chemotherapy.

There are new technologies regarding hair regrowth and I'm sure your dermatologists know these.  There are drugs that can be taken to stimulate hair growth, but the activity of this may affect the course of breast cancer (since these drugs would also entail hormonal manipulation.).

join the club.  My hair did the exact same thing.  It has been a year and a half since chemo. But funny thing, lately I have started to get some stubble.  But my hair is bald in the back and on top.  aaarrrggghhhh.  It's bad enough to go  through chemo and then have no hair on top of that.lt seems really unfair.
But hey, go online and type in lace wigs.  I am buying one myself.  it stays on for 2 to 6 weeks.  you can shower and swim in them and they breath and are light. all the actresses are using them.  They are awesome.  check it out.
good luck.  I am still waiting  for my hair.
