Worried about abnormality on first mammogram

Hi.  I just had my first mammogram at the age of 39.  There is no history of breast cancer in  my family.

The hospital just called to schedule a spot compression of an area of my right breast that shows thickening.  Two years ago, a horse bit my right breast.  It didn't really break the skin but there was a ton of bruising and I had a watermelon-sized black/blue/purple/green/yellow breast for some time.

Could this thickening be related to that trauma?

Dear 1maria:  It is not uncommon for a screening mammogram to show a density and spot compression to be recommended.  Sometimes, breast tissue can fold over on itself and when the spot is compressed - it will disappear.  Another possibility is that there is some scar tissue left from the injury you sustained.  If spot compression shows a density, it will be "rated" as more or less suspicious.  If the doctors are concerned, a biopsy could be recommended.
