Worried still!!!

I was diagnosed in 1/2004 with DCIS.  I decided to have a bilateral mastectomy because I have always had a fear of cancer.  I had my bilateral mastectomy in 3/2004.  When the pathology report came back, there was also a 1mm microinvasion of invasive breast cancer.  My surgeon and oncologist didn't recommend further treatment.  About a year later, a friend got bc and ended up with a bilateral mastectomy and chemotherapy. Her doctor told her that I should have had a sentinel node biopsy.  I have worried ever since that I should have had lymph node biopsy and maybe chemotherapy.  Do you think it would have shown up by now if it had been in my lymph nodes?  I try not to worry, but then the feeling of dread gets stirred up again over little things.

Dear neatfreakmom:  Whether or not additional treatment (including lymph node biopsy) is recommended would be based on the specifics of your situation.  Your friend's doctor may have made a comment to her based on bits of information provided by your friend.  This should not constitute a second opinion.  If you are concerned, you should gather up your information, including the pathology slides and reports, and get an official second opinion from an oncologist who can review all of the information and make a recommendation based on the facts.
