adjuvant treatment for hormon negative DCIS

adjuvant treatment for hormon negative DCIS

I had DCIS and mastectomy 6 months ago. The surgeon checked two lymph nodes and they were both negative. I was told I would not have adjuvant treatment because my DCIS is ER/PR negative and Her2/neu positive.  I feel insecure because no any measures to protect my other breast or recurrence after the surgery. I'd like to know if there are any new development for estrogen and progesterone receptor negative DCIS patient or what I can do to protect myself.

Dear yousu100:  DCIS is considered a very early cancer and generally does not require adjuvant treatment in the setting of negative ER/PR receptors.  If you are uncomfortable, you may wish to obtain a second opinion with pathology review to confirm the diagnosis and any adjuvant treatment options.

You may wish to ask your surgeon/oncologist about having Herceptin as you are HER2+.
Liz.
