after lumpectomy...masectomy or radiotherapy?

Hi! I have few questions and would appreciate any advice.
I am a 38 years old woman and just went through surgery few days ago for a lumpectomy stage II. I had removed a DCIS of 6/6cm for a 4/3cm lump and was assured it was not spread to the lymph nodes. The analysis revealed a volume of 1.5mm invasive cancer cells. I’m meeting my doc in 2 days time but by then I would like to have an idea about how to proceed. I would also be happy to hear of anybody who went through a similar procedure.
My questions are:
1. Would it be better for my peace of mind to have mastectomy or the radiotherapy would be enough?
2. Is there any other option I should be aware of?

Dear maridim: Without more information, including the pathology report and information on the surgical margins, it is impossible to make a specific recommendation. In general, mastectomy and lumpectomy + radiation have similar survival rates in appropriately selected patients. In addition to a more detailed discussion with your surgeon, you may benefit from consultation with a medical oncologist, particularly given the finding of invasive cancer.

I was in a similar situation, however, mine was 1.6cm IDC with sentinal lymph node involvement. I was diagnosed 2 years ago at age 41 with a strong family history of breast cancer. After a lumpectomy and then re-excision with axillary node disection (22 nodes removed) and then chemo ACT (8 treatments), I opted against radiation and chose to go with a double mastectomy with implant reconstruction. Part of my decision was based on the fear of recurrence, as well as the reconstruction options available after radiation if it were necessary in the future. I would suggest that you ALSO speak with a plastic surgeon to discuss your reconstruction options if radiation is chosen and the limitations it may give you in the future. Discuss your risk factors with your oncologist and surgeon. You have to feel confident in your decision with no regrets. Gather all your information and then decide.
