after surgery

after surgery

i had breast cancer surgery 11/6/2001 at the clinic.  my question is should i be alarmed by the feel of the area where my tumor was taken out?  i had a mass of tissue [about 6 cm by 6 cm] in size removed from my right breast[ right behind my nipple] now when i examine this area it feels as if there is another mass there. a friend told me it could be scar tissue from the operation. i've also been told that the tissue that grows back in the area where the tumor was removed would be more dense than the breast tissue. i guess my question is should the tissue that grows back feel the same as the breast tissue that was there pre-tumor?  i'm going to start chemo, during the week of 12/17-12/22/2001 but right now after a shower i don't like what i feel.pleas help.[ also my father just died of stomach cancer this morning at the clinic and i'm stressed] thank you.

Dear mich:  Any time surgery is performed, there exists a potential for scar tissue to form.  Scar tissue is usually harder than normal tissue and does not have the same elasticity.  So, it is possible that this is, indeed, scar tissue.  However, if you are concerned, there is nothing wrong with asking to see your surgeon who can feel the area and make sure that all is okay.
