anemia in neoplastic disease

anemia in neoplastic disease

My cousin has completed chemo for stage 1 breast cancer about four months ago.  She became anemic during chemo and received procrit for it.  She is still slightly anemia now.  She recently requested a copy of her medical records in preparation for a summer vacation.  One of her records states that she has anemia in neoplastic disease.  What does anemia in neoplastic disease mean?  Does it mean that she still has breast cancer in her body that is making her anemic?  Is it a stage 4 disease?  Thank you for your help.

Dear Tammy07:  In general, “anemia in neoplastic disease” refers to anemia related to cancer , however, the physician may have been using this term generally to include anemia related to treatment of cancer .  Rather than try to guess at what was meant out of context, it may best for your cousin to discuss this record entry with the physician who wrote it and ask specifically what he meant.
