The special radiation treatment they were suggesting is called APBI. My mother is 85; the cells are pre-cancerous. It sounds excessive to me. What do ya'll think?

That radiation has been given since 1997 and is a very normal part of treatment for breast cancer. It's not so special and it's very normal. It can be done either external beam for up to 7 weeks or so or can be seeded for 5 days internally.

Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation

55 or 85 I'd opt for radiation rather than not if I had breast cancer. Why do you think it's excessive? She has a will to live, yes? She has a will for treatment, yes? Have you ever had breast cancer? If you have, you know why your Mother is willing.

Radiation is called for with pre-cancer too, such as DCIS.
