hi, my friend has just been diagnosed with apocrine breast cancer. the doctor said she had 10mm removed and not spread the the lymph nodes. he has said he doesn't know much about this cancer and will be seeking advice from the net. my question is what is the prognosis for this type of cancer and what kind of treatment is required. thanks

Dear Maloney2004:  Apocrine carcinoma refers to a histologic subtype of ductal carcinoma.  The prognosis for apocrine carcinoma does not vary significantly from ductal carcinoma, although some reports suggest that apocrine carcinoma may have a slightly better prognosis.  Treatment would likely be similar to the recommendation for ductal carcinoma.
