areola lesions

i have sores around the areola for about 2 years on both breast and have not seen a doctor yet.  a midwife that i know referred me to a surgeon should i be worried.

Well you should not have neglected the lesions and that too for such a long time. they could get infected you know. Are the lesions the same in size as when they started or have they increased in size? Is there any associated nipple discharge? You definitely need to get a complete clinical evaluation done by a physician. You might need some antibiotic creams for local application and might need to take some painkillers or antibiotics if your physician thinks so. Do not wear tight clothing and use a soothing lotion and moisturising cream till you see your physician. Also ask him whether you need a screening mammogram done.
