areola turned white after sentinal lymph node biopsy

First Breast Cancer surgery was lumpectomy.  All cancer was eradicated.  The day before Thanksgiving, one month ago, I had more tissue removed (under my left breast) and a Sentinal Lymph Node Biopsy.  I was given a shot  of tracer above my areola to locate the lymph nodes coming from my breast.  My nipple area still hurts and out from it.  My areola has turned white and hardened abit.  Also, the area out from the areaola (about a 2 1/2 " circumference) is slightly red.   I am concerned that I have blood flow loss.  Do I need to be concerned?  I called my doctor at Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, but not sure the nurse understood what I was saying.  She didn't seem concerned. Dear stitchekrj, It is difficult to evaluate something without ability to assess through physical examination and put into context of your surgery.  Of primary concern would be infection if this continues to cause you discomfort or worsens you might want to have it checked by your surgeon.
