arimedex

Do you feel taking Arimedex will help block my positive receptors enough to preven another occurrence of DCIS?? I just started taking it!

Dear Elinka,  Arimidex (anastrozole) an aromatase inhibitor works by interfering with the conversion of androgens to estrogens in the body.  Aromatase inhibitors have been approved for several uses  in the treatment of estrogen receptor positive breast cancer, in post-menopausal women.  The role of aromatase inhibitors in the treatment of DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) has not been proven, although some clinical trials are currently looking at this question.

I have DCIS and am in pre-menopause state. Can I take Arimedex?
I heard about Tamoxifen and its many side effects.  Is Arimedex a better option?  Thanks.

Tamoxifen is a different kind of drug than Arimidex. Arimidex, Femara, and Aromasin are all aromatase inhbitors and do not work for premenopausal breast cancer patients. Other drugs can be used to bring on menopause and then one of the aromatase inhibitors can be used.

i have a patient taking arimedex post breast surgery 2003 for carcinoma.  she is going on holiday to kenya and zanzibar (2 weeks) and needs to take malarone for malaria protection, is this ok to take with drug.  also needs vaccines diptheria tetanus polio hepatitis A, typhoid and yellow fever, are they ok to have and if so will there be a good result from vaccines. thanks for your early reply, ann practice nurse.

I have been taking arimidex for almost 2 years. I am 74 and I hav e been trying to lose weight for the past year and I can barely lose a pound in a month. Does Arimidex have anyyhing to do with your weight? JLMo
