arimidex and vaginal dryness

I have been on Arimidex for 2 years due to hormone postive early stage ILC. The side effects are tolerable, but the worst thing is the vaginal dryness. I am newly married and having enjoyable sex is almost impossible. The dryness is so bad I bleed sometime and I mentioned this to my gyno and he did all the neccessary test for cancer and it was all good except for severe dryness. He suggested Estrace Vaginal Creme in low doses. I am not sure this is good because of my type of ER positve cancer. It sounds contradictory. He says it is not enough to worry about. I am tempted because my quality of life stinks. Does anyone have any input on this?. I have tried all the over the counter stuff and it is not working well. I am 55 yrs old and feel I am too young to not have a somewhat enjoyable sex life. My hubby is real understanding. The oncologist says it may be ok if I am that miserable. The prescribe doses is half a gram twice a week. Thanks all of you fine people.

Dear Cattie489:  Vaginal dryness is a common problem associated with arimidex.  If you have worked with your oncologist and gynecologist and have exhausted all non-hormone options, then it becomes a quality of life decision.  We do not know what the impact of using a weak estrogen product will be.  Therefore, you must make the decision based on the risk benefit ratio as it pertains to you.
