arimidex-how do you stop the weight gain?

by firmitup, Aug 20, 2009 11:51AM
I am 42 and have been on Arimidex since Feb. 20, 2009.  I have had a hysterectomy in May to remove my ovaries.
I have gained 15 pounds.  I am on a 1600 calorie/day diet and walk six miles a day, four days a week.  I would like to know if there is any thing else I can do to battle this weight gain.  I will be on Arimidex for another four years.

I don't know of anything unless you would reduce the caloric intake although it might not be totally due to food. It might also depend on what those calories are coming from.   Good Luck....

HI, I have been on Arimidex since Jan 09 when I also had my ovaries removed.I am 53 and have gained 10lbs. I also walk and follow a low-fat diet but these do not seem to be making a difference but then perhaps I would have put on more weight without the diet and exercise. I really think that the weight gain has more to do with being pushed straight into menopause and I hope that it will settle in time. I have experienced sore muscles and joints as well but persist with walking and Pilates. My oncologist has said she wants me to stop the Arimidex and try one of the other aromatose inhibitors so I will see if that makes a difference.
Good luck and keep well.

I think a lot of the weight is water. Only took the arimidex for a few days but in that little time gained about 5 pounds. femara was a little better but I went off it also. Going back on Tamoxifen, and I have a feeling it's the best drug for me anyway. kat
